Goodies (GoodReads Choice Awards)
It's not long since I joined one of the best book-readers social site (and not only), GoodReads. Some of the reasons for which I joined the GoodReads community were getting to have a visual representation of how many books I read, exchanging book impressions with other felow readers, keeping in touch with news about books being published around the world and, later, when I became a GoodReads Librarian, keeping the world informed about books from Romanian Authors.
Recently, GoodReads has conducted a poll about favourite books of 2011 and some days ago the voting has brought us the winners.
Best Fantasy Award category was won, as many might have suspected, by the long awaited A Dance with Dragons, the fifth book of A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin. No much surprise there :D
Best Science Fiction was voted Stephen King's 11/22/63, which I'm looking forward to read, having seen some interesting reviews.
Best Historical Fiction was awarded to Paula McLain's The Paris Wife, while Best Fiction was selected to be Haruki Murakami's 1Q84(another work that I'll definitely be reading)
Winning the categories of Best Young Adult Fantasy and Science Fiction and the overall Favourite Book of 2011 was Veronica Roth's Divergent. On one hand it is quite interesting that a Young Adult book has won the Favourite book of the year Award, yet looking back to 2009 and 2010, there should have been no surprise at all. Both previous years Favourite Book were Young Adult Fantasy - Hunger Games books by Suzanne Collins.
If interested for more than Science Fiction and Fantasy, check out the full list of winners of the 2011 GoodReads Choice Awards.
